Hi chaps,

does anybody KNOW which way round the tapered pin is fitted to hold
the tiller fitting to the rudder shaft.

Thats to say, which side do I hit to release it.

When in the cockpit and looking aft use a punch and tap from the starboard
side.
Walt, Lyric.
Why are you removing the rudder?

Hi George

Hit it from the port side. Our chairman, Mike Freeman, has just carried out
the
removal and replacement of the rudder and will be doing an article in the next
VAGB newsletter. I have also had some stainless steel tapered pins made
especially for the job. They are £5 each and I have eight left.

See ya all

Hi chaps,

I have one vote for port, one for stb - anybody for best of three?

btw I'm removing the rudder because it was damaged in my incident (of
which I no longer speak - but still have nightmares about).

Is it possible that the taper is the other way round on later boats.
Vista is 1043 (so a Mk 1, yes?)

Hi George

Contact Mike Freeman (VAGB Chairman) at mike@... as he has just
removed his tiller and used one of my tapered pins.

Kind Regards

Hi

yipee, got the pin out and the rudder fitting off. I think (on Vista
anyway) the answer is port. Maybe later Mk's were different.

Tks for input.

Steve, if you're reading this could you keep one of those pins for
me, this one is bent. I'll contact you later.

Hi Ed,

I was so flushed with my actually achieving anything that I was not
thinking so well. Having hit both ends of the pin numerous times I
kinda lost track. I'm about 95% sure you hit it on the stb side. The
thing that makes me even more unsure is that the pin is badly bent,
so I can't even say for sure if it was fitted the right way when it
was last installed.
