Tap Sizes for Gauge Sending Units

I recently bought an 84 Hunter 34.5 with a Yanmar diesel. The motor warning (idiot) lights don't work and I'd like to replace them with Faria gauges (oil pressure & water temperature). The plan is to replace the old sending units with new ones but I can't figure what the thread sizes are in the engine. Are they metric or NPTF? If any of you have added gauges, did you have any problems replacing the sending units? Thanks & good sailing.

I recently did this on my H34

and even made a new instrument panel. I will give you the part numbers in the next couple of days. I used the Yanmar parts because I did not want to chance changing the threads from metric to NPT. I was concerned that I would damage the opening and cause leaks or whatever.

Thanks, looking forward to part numbers

Thank you for your reply. Did you have any problems mounting the new sending units? The gauges I'm using are electric and I may have a problem mounting the oil pressure sender because it looks like a tight fit. Its possible that I will have to use a hydrolic hose and mount the sender on it. The sender is grounded thru the motor but I think a stainless steel hose will provide a suitable ground back to the engine. Do you have any idea what the tap sizes on the engine are? Again, thank you.

Dave, these are the parts that

I used. I looked at SW and other gauge mfgrs but did not want to retap the temp and oil gauge threads. If I messed up the threads and had a leak then the idiot lights would have been the least of my problems. I chose to go with the parts recommended by Torresen. These were for a 3GMF. 124617-97840 temp gauge MBP274 Temp sender MBP 273 oil sender MBP 335 oil gauge. (I think MBP stands for Mack Boring Part) The senders fit in the existing holes and I used the wires that ran from the old idiot light senders. I am pleased with the change and like to know that all is fine. If there is a problem I can see it coming. That's how I changed from the idiot lights. You have to choose your own path. The total cost of the change was about $150.00.
