I have a 1981 Catalina 27 dinette model. The boat has a standard marine head with no honding tank. Could you please give me some advice on parts required and tank placement.Thank you Jim
Jim:West Marine has some good diagrams for doing just what you are asking about. You can have a head the will discharge directly overboard when outside of protect waters or go directly into a tank when inside of protected waters. Make sure that you use the best quality hose for the sewage side of the system. This stuff is expensive ($8us +/ft) but worth every penny. Keep your runs as short as possible and try not to have any low spots in the system. You are going to need a high quality holding tank too. Make sure you use something with thick walls. When these systems are properly installed they can last for years. When you try to cheap it out you can plan on redoing it in a year or two.
It's on the forum home page. There are several files, including the one on odor control in holding tanks, replacing hoses (putting new ones on), and installing a head and holding tank that should answer most of your questions. As for a source for the tank, scroll the HM forum messages for the last week or so...I recently posted a recommendation and contact information.
