We sail C27 hull 2020, a 1975 model, bought used a couple of years ago. I've always wodered exactly what the difference(s) is/are between standard and tall rigs. I'm not sure which we have. If it's any help, the draft has been precisely tested (3.5 feet) a couple of times in the Chesapeake Bay. The headsail is a masthead installation, but not sure if it was that way as delivered, or not.

C27 Tall Rig

Catalina has used a variety of configurations on the various models. Usually the mast is 2' taller, and on the C27, and C30 the J is longer. This is done by adding a small bow sprit. On some models besides having 2' more mast, some models also lengthen the foot 'E' measurement of the main as the C36. So if your boat has the forestay attached to a short sprit instead of the the bow, it is a tall rig. The C27 came with two different keels, which would not have a connection to what rig is on the boat. Mike
