I recently purchased a 1989 Catalina 25 and I am just learning the "ropes." There is no documentation from the original owner. Does anyone know how I can tell if it is a standard rig or tall rig?
The tall rig's mast is about 2 feet longer than the standard rig, the foredeck and boom dimenstions are the same on both boats.....
if your jib halyard is available.. attach a tape measure to determine the "I" dimension, which is the hoist of the headsail, from top block to the foredeck.... Standard rig "I" dimension is 29 ft. Tall rig "I" is 31ft.
You can also use the main halyard to measure the "P" which is the mainsail hoist from the boom to the black line at the top.... Standard rig "P" is 24' 8" Tall rig "P" is 27' 8"
Typically a tall rig has the boom mounted several inches lower and will be real close to your head while standing in the cockpit of you are six foot. If there is a bimini installed you will not be able to stand straight up under it.
