Last summer was my first with a 1988 18.5. The boat was kept on the trailer in dry storage at the marina between sail dates. Following each outing I found water in the well below the removable floor board at the keel bolt access. Depending upon the duration of each outing, the amount of water varied from an inch or two in this well to several inches throughout the cabin floor in addition to the well. Some water exited during out-of-the-water storage, but I typically had to bail and mop prior to launching again unless I had taken the time to do so following retrieval. There is some old, dried caulk at the keel bolts that I plan to remove and re-apply over the winter. My question for other 18.5 owners: Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is it limited to the keel bolts or is there a need for additional caulk at the metal/fiberglass seam on the outside of the hull? Is there another problem I'm not aware of? Any suggestions, tips, personal experiences would be appreciated.
