Lost the needle on my tach (see photo) for Yanmar 3GMF on my Hunter 34. Anyone replaced just a needle? Can it be done? Searched forums for replacement tachs and found some for other boats. Anyone replaced original on H34/Yanmar 3GMF?

If you can get it apart perhaps Superglue, otherwise a new tach is in order...

It should come apart .. careful and patience helps.. The problem usually is that the needle is preloaded against the "0" peg.. so figuring out how much to preload can be.... tedious.. The needle center just pushes onto the moving center post (axle). That would involve running the engine at a known, measured rpm (hand held digital tacho) with the disassembled tach connected and running.. then with a half drop of superglue on the axle, pinning the needle back on.. in the right place.. or replace the tacho Good Luck.. There have been postings on a better tachometer that can be configured to accept the sensor output or use the alternator output ..
EDIT: I found it here;

Thank you Maine and thank you kloudie. Off in search of someone with a hand-held digital tacho who wants a new friend.
