I have a '85 Catalina 30 with a Universal M25. Tachometer is not working and looks like Ammeter is not either. Checked alternator output voltage and it reads only .18 volts. I am assuming it should be 1-2 volts, but am not sure. If I in fact am only reading .18 volts of output, is that why tachometer does not indicate any RPM? John.

John,

The first thing to check are the wires at the back of the alternator.

The second, and more important thing, is to replace that ammeter. You remain one of a handful of skippers who may not be aware of the poor charging system with an ammeter in the cockpit.
