I have a 1983 H30 with a Yanmar 2GM the tach hasn't worked since the day I bought it. Is there some kind of sending unit that could be faulty? By looking at my wiring diagram for the boat it seems pretty vague. What would be the easiest fix?

Wire at engine
I had the same problem and only recently solved it. The sending unit is on the back of the engine near the top, powered by two wires leading to the wiring harness. The harness is lower, and tends to pull these two wires downward, somehow disconnecting the sender from its wires. All I had to do was lift these wires up and use a wire tie to keep them level with the sending unit so the stress was relieved.
