Has anyone added a tach to their single cylinder Yanmar YSM12? If so what was involved. What tach, materials used and basic installation!

did it this way

I used a proximity switch and a high-speed counter, gave me a digital tack and I totalize the rpm. Some people change their oil every 50 hours, I change it every 9 million revs. The prox switch reads the set bolt on the shaft coupling. This gives me the option of reading prop speed or engine RPM, the totalizer I selected has the ability to write several algorithms to a single input. So I can push a button and see a corrected output of engine rpm (a factor of the transmission ratio) or the actual shaft rpm. The only problem I have is if I run in reverse too much - it messes up my oil change reading :) There are other ways of doing this, west marine has a tack and sender that would work, however it was easier and less expensive to do what I selected. terry
