Catalina 30 Cundy's Harbor
Hello All,

I bought a 1980 Catalina 30 in Nov. The existing table is in bad shape and cannot be removed to convert the port settee into a double berth.

I have some old documentation which has old photo copy sketches and descriptions of various table mods.

It's time to start the project for and I was hoping someone out there has successfully built a table/berth mod thats aesthetically appealing and they are really happy with.

Here are my questions:

Anyone have ‘simple’ plans for a table which can:
· Convert to the port double berth
· Fold to be used as a ½ size table
· Fold to be mounted to bulkhead in an aesthetically appealing way
· Can be set and secured by a single youth (12 year old say)

What would you recommend for wood/plywood for a non budget breaker:

Any recommendations on stain to match interior?

Thansk in advance,

Sean

Teak would be a good selection for the wood. I know that some people have used other woods inside like oak and they varnish it heavily.

I am not sure which table set-up you have. Pictures would be helpful as there were a few different table layouts for the Catalina 30. You could always use the existing table as a pattern and replace the existing hardware.

Good luck.

Sean,
call catalina in california. Ask for Kent in engineering. Tell him what you need to re-make an original table and you would like for him to send the drawings for the table & mounting bracket. You can then decide on your material. the number is: 1-818-884-7700 west coast time

Wow....Thanks...that's cool...I spoke with Kent and he's sending me the info. I wouldn't have thought it possible to talk to a real person in engineering at a boat manufacturer and have them send me drawings without first dealing with multiple voice mails, e-mails and fees. Thanks much.

Sean,
Glad to help pal. I've used them quite abit over the years. Even had conversations with the man himself, Frank Butler. It's good to know they still support the older boats.......

Tom,
they're probably one of the roomiest 30 footers you can find. When people ask me what kind of boat I have, I tell em "it's a Chevy!!!

Yep....Having a company that is still in business is great.....Having a company that has great support....PRICELESS.

Catalina is great. Frank Butler seems to really encourage customer service, even service for those of us with older boats.
