T Track placement

I have a 1987 Hunter 23 and purchased a 135 Genoa. The standing block won't allow me to pull the sail tight . I purchased 2foot sections of t track and movable Schaefer spring blocks. Not sure how far behind the original block to place the t track. I'm also not liking the idea of having to put 14 holes in boat to mount the tracks. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Does the '87 H23 have an internal liner? If so, you will need to cut access holes so you can bolt the t-track to the deck directly. You will need to back the entire piece of track with butyl tape. The head of the track should end about where the fixed block currently sits and proceed aft, slightly angled outboard.

You really need to extend existing track 2' as to give plenty adjustment for different sails and wind conditions

The small hunters don't have genoa tracks, they have standing blocks. I don't like the set up on mine either and have been thinking of adding a track. But for me it is so I can get the clew further outboard on a broad reach.

I'm away from home so I don't have the correct numbers to use but maybe someone can help. To get the correct placement angle for your tracks you mark a center line on your boat and then mark so many inches aft of mast. From that mark every so many inches to port or star is a degree and then set rails at the desired angle.

Just came to me that the last Sail Mag. had an article on how to use rings (that can sometimes replace blocks) to make an inexpensive adjustable lead that dose not need a track.
