I didn't use the term davit or boom or any other in the tittke question as I am leaving the method open to any you think works well. I have a 426 and only have a small 3.3 horse outboard, so it is doable with a line by pulling the motor up to the deck, and conversly lowering it to the dingy - however ever time I do this (or did it on my 326) it felt like catching hold of a greased pig and getting the motor mounted and removed seemed much harder than it should. But, with the dingy bouncing and my wife handing me the moter it always seemed like a matter of time befor we had a problem - yes I keep a line on the moter etc. But think that some type of boom or something would make this an easy task - any thoughts? What do you do? And if you do somehting with specific hardware, pleas give me the name/model and where to get it! Thanks for any comments Ed

Take a look at Garhauer Marine

Ed: Take a look at Garhauer Marine. They have a tower that can be attached to the stern rail and will life most any engine (even if you end up with a larger one in the future). www.garhauermarine.com

OUtboard Lift

I installed a Forespar hoist. Works great for lifting my 5HP. Not cheap but surely a better way than by hand. You can find them at their website, I think. Got mine through Boat/US.

Ed, I had the same problem. Solved it. No$

Ed, I have a 4 horse that I use on my dingy. I made a sling out of spare strapping. I tied the ends of the stapping to a SS ring. The strapping goes around the motor top and the foot with the ring at the top. This way when I raise the engine the motor picks up at an angle like when you are carrying it. I use the boom/main sheet blocks to lift the engine and swing the boom and engine out over the side and lower using the main sheet. The bottom main block d shackle that was attached to the travler is attached to the sling ring. I can operate single handed. I raise the engine up to the boom and cleat it. The diggy is along side. I get into the diggy with the main sheet. Pulling the main sheet I swing the boom over the side right over the diggy. I uncleat the main and lower the engine onto the dingy. easy as pie. Ted

Defender sell the MotorMate

See the related link. Easily installs (4 screws in base) and stow away. The rail mount hardware was included when I bought mine 2 years ago.

Love my Garhauer

We bought our Garhaur to lift a 9.9hp 4 cycle and it worked great, but the outboard weighted too much for the stern rail. Use it with our 3.3 and much safer than leaning over and grabbing the greased pig. I can't wait till spring RRegge S/V Allie Kat
