Synthetic Steel Wool

When using Island Girl products, how important is the grade of synthetic steel wool? The kit I received had one small pad of "000". In my area, I can readily get "00" and "0000", but not "000". Anyone know how critical this is to using the IG products successfully?

I found 000 grit...

At Home Depot (along with everything else in the world...) I'd guess either 00 or 0000 would work fine too. Check a small area and be sure you're not scratching it up...

Use 0000 rather than 00

The important thing is to lightly "open up" the surface so that SEA GLOW or other IG cleaner can penetrate. DO NOT USE SCOTCHBRITE OR OTHER HARSH METHOD.I have never used 000 (out here in HI canot even get 000, we have to get it shipped in. However this would seem to be even better, especially for smooth gelcoat and for soft vinyl upholstery.THe only time I have used a fiercer grade is on really bad hypalon, to get down into the textured surface.Hope this is some help. Actually I will try Home Depot here, since they just opened a branch.For some reason 3M do not realize what a good product they have (their sales people are not always too informative).In fact I was at a West Marine where they were closing out on the 3M pads because of lack of demand.ThanksJim W
