Has anyone here done this? I've seen a few Hunters with this rig and a spin pole on deck. To me, it seems by the time you're sailing deeper than a broad reach, the main would be all over the spreaders.

I roll the main in as it just blocks air IMHO. Sometimes when I'm bored I try to adjust it to the wind as if the leech were the luff and kinda sail it backwards.

It should be fine. Unless you are going DDW, which is rarely a good idea, the apparent wind will be pushed forward to the point where the boat is trimmed with the pole at 45 degrees and the boom will match it. At this angle the main will be well off the spreaders.

Put spreader patches on the main where it touches the tips. There is no pro mel with the main being against the spreaders.
