Have a Captiva 24 with a swinging centerboard that is rope operated from the stern. The board won't pull up giving rise to the possibility that the rope channel which runs from the stern forward to the centerboard recess may be clogged possibily with barnicales. .Anyone out there ever have this problem with a boat and if so how did you solve it

Every year we get some barnacle growth in our centerboard trunk but we also haul out each fall and get to work on the barnacles.
If you know how to scuba then get some gear on and check it out. If you don't scuba you can find someone willing to dive your boat for money.
The only way that I know of to remove barnacles is manually.

This is a swinging centerboard..which does not have a trunk. It's rope operated from the stern and the rope runs thru pvc piping under the deck until get it gets to the horizontal recess for the board. Similar to a swing keel the difference being a swing keel is on cable and operated by a winch.. The recess is a sealed one so any solution would have to come from approaching the rope channel from the bottom of the boat while hauled.
How do you know that the pivot point for your center board is not encrusted with barnacles and therefore will not move? Barnacles will also attach to lines (ropes) so are you sure that the line is not encrusted as well, which could make it impossible to pull.
Probably a good idea to haul it out but it would be interesting to see what is growing down there before shelling out the cash for a haul out. Put on a mask and go for a swim. I'm pretty sure you have much more intense marine life growth down in FL then I do up in the lower Hudson River.

stuck centerboard
Yep it's my boat. Thanks for pointing out the possibility of barnacles on the rope and pivit pin. Hauling out and the rack is free at my marina but at times this area of Florida looks like an oyster farm. Hauled it 4 months ago and it looked like I was farming oysters.
