Any one have experience with Captiva 24 swinging centerboards. I need to know what is in the centerboard trunk so I can figure out what may be broken and making the board nearly impossable for one person to raise. Company folded in the 86 recession.

Two words: marine growth. One word: barnacles. These organisms can bond to both the centerboard and trunk and can make the mechanism hard to use.
I'm assuming you keep the boat in warm salt water in Port Richey, FL.

Another possibility is if there is a piece of wire rope rigging used to raise the board it could have some frayed threads and be catching somewhere.

Good luck.

Yep American Marina I just re-did rope centerboard and trunk with 2 part apoxy..topped with Trinidad 75 and a stainless Steel pivot pin. Trouble appears to be in the part of the centerboard recess you can't get to. My crewman builds fiberglass boats for a living so we may haul it out again and cut into it . Hate to do it especialy when this boat dosen't need a board unless sailing tight to windward..Still I like everything to work properly so when I drop anchor for the last time those who have to clean up after me..will have an easier SALE

Yep American Marinia. Just re-did rope centerboard and trucn with 2 part apoxy topped with Trinidad 75 and a new stainless steel piviot pin.Trouble appears to be in the part of the board recess that can't be reached from below. Only way to get to it is to raise a cabin deck hatch and start sawing. My crewman is a fiberglass boat builder so we can haul it again but hate to since the only time you need the board is sailing tight to wiindward . Stiill I like everything to work on a boat so when I drop anchor for the last time those who have to clean up after me have an easier SALE. Pun intended..great appreciate your reply
