Swing Keel

My slip is roughly 5'8" of water and my keel when dropped is 5'5". I am concerned a storm might push into the bottom. If I raise the keel a few feet will this cause the gasket on the joint to wear out?

I keep mine up at dock

Not sure if that's a bad thing..I also replace my cable at regular intervals.
