I have a question to ask? This is my first experience with a swing keel boat with the exception of a 16 ft daysailer. I recently bought a 25ft oday and i need to work on the swing keel. What is the best way to post her up in the yard? Can i let the swing keel hang down a little and block behind and in front of it?

Swing keel work

I have 25 Oday (1985) and would like to know just what kind of repairs you are about to do on your swing keel? Maybe I can help you.Remember that the keel is extremely heavy on these boats and caution is advised if you are planing on unhinging the keel.

Congratulations on your purchase. If they're available I would put it on stands (most boat yards have them). You didn't say if you needed to remove the keel or not. If you just need to repaint it the stands will work great. If you need to remove it an extra pair of hands might be useful and the stands will save a lot of trouble. These keels don't weigh several hundred pounds like some I've seen, but they are a handful solo. It can be done, but man it's a pain. If the boat was in saltwater it is also a good idea to check the screws and plates even if you don't remove the keel. They may need to be replaced if they are too damaged by corrosion. Good luck
