When launching will the keel stay up when boat is off the trailer or will gravity drop it? Also when putting it back on can it be cranked up and locked beforehand?Thanks, launching tomarro for the first time and want to make sure I haven't forgotten anything.

To launch you should have the keel cranked up with the winch mechanism automatically locking it in place. Same for retrieving the boat. Just make sure the winch mechanism "clicks" while turning the handle. That is the "up" and auto-locking direction. Just turn 'till you feel the increased pressure when the keel is all the way up. Turning the other way (no click) lets the keel down. You would have a very difficult time launching or retrieving without bringing the keel up. Happy sailing!

Keel Locking Bolt

John,DO NOT USE the keel locking bolt during launching and retrieving. This is the bolt found under the port side dinette bench. This is only a friction mechanism used while the boat is in the water to assist in a knock-down while sailing.As Michael correctly stated in the previous post, the locking mechanism of the keel cable winch is designed to provide the capabilities you need for launching and retrieving.Best Wishes!Brads/v Worthless Crew1972 C-22 SK
