The owner's manual provides this information. Make sure you have the correct manual for the year and are looking at the right set of specifications (made that mistake once...). Also, when buying the rope, I would err on getting a couple of extra feet (made that mistake too).

I have a 1994 Hunter 26. The owner's manual includes the 19, 23.5, and 26. I attached a scan of the Rigging Specifications page for the 23.5 from my manual. The "CB Uphaul" is the line that attaches to the swing keel and comes up through the compression post. The "CB Cascade" is the line on the deck.

If you do not have the manual or need further information, contact Hunter. They are a great resource. It's amazing how much info they still have on these older boats. The number is (386) 462-3077. Ronnie Barnes in parts really helped me out.

If it is a 1985 Hunter 23' with a swing wing keel then you probably won't have any manual stating the length and size. I have 5/16th inch line on mine. The length... just enough ;). I've never measured it but coudn't be much more 12-14 feet.

Up-haul and down-haul lines are the same length.

I've tried to find the "official" specs, but have not had much success

5/16th does seem about the right diameter though, as the stock 4:1 blocks (if I remember correctly) accept a line up to 8mm.. 5/16th is just a hair shy of 8mm. I was thinking about going with a 6mm V12 line myself. As for them being the same length? Seems like the down-haul line would be a bit longer since it goes through the blocks, while the up-haul doesn't. Of course, I really have no idea since both are missing on my H23 at the moment.. I will be dropping the CB and replacing them very soon (well, at least it's on my very long 'to-do' list :) )

Cheers,
Brad

If your boat doesn't have a water ballast tank, I imagine the manual I uploaded at my first post will not work. I agree that 5/16" might be a little small considering the water ballast boat line calls for 7/16". I still recommend calling Hunter.
