http://www.catalina-capri-25s.org/default.asp This is the Catalina 25/250 national association forum and it is full of great information. We have a wing keel C250 and like its very spacious interior, fully enclosed head, wheel steering and sailing abilities. Others swear by the traditional C25. The site is a wealth of information and opinions.

been there done that....

I, like Randy, have a C250 we recently purchased. We went through the swing/wing debate as well. We opted for a wing primarily because of the increased maintenance issues involved with the swinger. I'm not a guy that likes to tinker with the boat. Maintenance is a checkbook issue for me since I don't have the skills nor the inclination. We were looking at the trailering issue as well and decided that the time involved in trailering/rigging and launching was more than we wanted to commit to. We would rather spend the time sailing instead of rigging. So, that also led us to the wing version in a wet slip. We felt that it outweighed the advantage of being able to trailer to exotic sailing locations which, in reality, we would likely rarely do. Finally we looked at the need to purchase a sufficient tow vehicle. The boat and trailer combination is roughly 6500Lbs. The consensus is that that REQUIRES at least a 3/4 ton truck with 4 wheel drive being HIGHLY DESIRABLE. That increased the cost of trailering for us. Anyway, Randy's right, the 250 has a substantially more spacious feel than the C25. The C250 has no bulkheads below to divide the space. The head is enclosed and the rest is open from the V to the aft berth. Frankly, I think the C25 has more traditional charm than my boat but the lack of required maintenance led us to the more recent vintage (1999). The more specific answer to your question about space difference is that the swing has less interior volume because it requires space for the swinger. Therefore, the cabin sole is higher. Less standing headroom. This is a frequent discussion on the C25 - C250 - Capri Association site that Randy referenced. Stop by and find a lot of friendly, helpful folks. You'll also find somebody near you that would love to show off their boat. If your ever in Ohio....... Good luck in the hunt.
