Swing Keel Problems

Has anyone else had problems lifting their swing keel using the fitted pulley and winch?Mine just does not see to want to swing up easily although from under the boat, (using snorkel and mask) I can swing the keel freely and it lift all the way into the keel well. I was thinking of attaching a hook to the edge of the swing keel to pull it up, by rope, from the back of the boat. Any better ideas? Thanks

Thanks, Toomas.I'm not too keen to drill holes in the hull to hold the two pulleys or guides your sketch shows. The keel swings up easy enough so I don't thimk it's jammed or blocked. However, the line only gives (moves) about 30 cms if that and when I asserted force the plactic pulley pulled out of its setting. Good sketch though!

What kind of boat do you have

My boat doesnt have any pulleys connected to the keel cable?????????? The cable goes directly from the winch down to the keel.

I also installed

a double cable system, so if one cable breaks, I still have the other to raise the keel.

check for

a groove worn into the plastic pully or an unprotected edge of the boat. will expect to see the line may begin to part at the same spot.

Hi Dennis, I have a Legend 26. The pulley is at the bottom of the mast step and has already pulled out and been reset a couple of times. Once the cord attached to the keel enters the deck there's no way to see if it's jamming or what, and under the boat with the keel down I can't see where the cord is attached to the keel. MJ

Cant you go on line and find

The schematics for that brand of boat? It seems that there should be some somewhere. A good line schematic would show you where to attach your cable to your keel.
