There are times when I am sailing my Venture 222 that the iron keel will bang around inside the trunk a little bit. When I am on a reach it does not seem to happen but when I am running or sitting on the mooring it does it. Not a lot but I can hear it rattling around some inside the trunk. Is this something to be concerned with and if so how do I fix it. It is not a problem, I am just worried that with all of that weight flexing around down there it could damage the fiberglass of the trunk. Anyone deal with this? I did a search and could not find anything.

Our 222 didn't seem to make any noise. The keel was one of the solid cast design. The other type has a fiberglass coating. I don't know if that would make a difference or not. I do know that Mac recommended replacement of the pivot bolt annually, you may want to look into that. Bryon Thomas "Shore Leave"

Mine is the cast iron with no fiberglass coating. I removed it and had all the rust blasted off and painted it this season. I am wondering if it has lost some thickness through rust and maybe add it back with fiberglass tape? I did not replace the bolt but did inspect and it was in good shape, no rust at all.
