We raised the boat this year and the keel on one wing was slightly bent. Our boat yard said they could fix for a few hundred dollars, sounded good. Hunter said it is no problem it will not effect sailing. Has anyone had this problem? Thank you. Denise

bent wing keel

We have a similar bend in one of the wings on our Passage 42. It was bent like that since we bought the boat in 1992. We have since cruised over 35,000 miles, and have noticed no problem at all. Same amount of leeway on either tack, holds course fine, etc. I once hauled out at a boatyard where I talked to a metal specialist about it. (Every time we haul out everybody has to stare at it awhile). He said that straightening it would diminish the strength in the part of the keel that is straightened. He didn't see any problem with just keeping it the way it was. Never been a problem, just a topic of conversation at the yards.

Mine bent...

..after going aground. She broke her mooring in a squall. Took that opportunity to replace that horrible wing for a really good fin keel. Made a huge difference to the sailing characteristics of the boat. I was also advised that trying to straighten the bent wing would only do more damage so I let the insurance company pay for a new keel. Best thing I could have ever done.
