Swing keel newbe

My swing keel is in the up position and I can't figure out how to lower it. It would appear that there is something limiting the turning of the crank counter clockwise. Is there a way of releasing it.http://forums.catalina.sailboatowners.com/images/smilies/confused.gif

on my 25 it was so stuck that when forced the handle bent and still no movement. ended up replacing the entire winch and cable.

hopefully not what you have to do but will say feel much more at ease knowing it's new.

I had the same kind of problem with mine when I first got it. When the crank is turned clockwise, the keel comes up, and the winch will click as it turns. When you tutn it anti-clockwise, there is no clicking, but you do have to turn against a brake, and it may be difficult at first. But once the keel starts down, it gets easier to turn.

So, try turning it backwards, and give it a pretty good shove, and hopefully it will break free for you. Good luck!
