swing keel line replacement

Is there a rule of thumb as to how often the line that controls the swing keel should be replaced . The part on the cabin top looks a bit frayed . Do people ever replace a portion that is exposed to the sun withough replacing the part that runs inside to the keel ?

Is this on a water ballast boat? If so, make sure the line is a 7/16 not a 1/2 as 1/2 is too large. Suggest for safety to have the boat lifted to pull the centerboard and centerboard housing out. Also for the boat, tie the straps on the travel lift or what ever lifts up the boat on both sides to insure the straps do not slide out and off.
