If it's anything like the Macgregor it has a brake winch. It should release when you crank it counter clockwise. Sometimes they stick so you need to bump the handle.
I had the same problem when I first got my Catalina 25. All you have to do is turn the handle opposite of bringing the keel up. The winch is a brake type, and so it doesn't have the "clicker", or hammer to stop it on the way up.
Thanks to all! Turned it counterclock wise 1 full turn and waited and waited till finally it freed itself.Probably from beeing on the trailer so long??TX
