C-25 swing keel dimensions
A freind of mine has a C-25 swing keel on stands right now so I took some measurements that I think might be helpful. This is a boat built in 1978 with hull/sail no. 523. It might be a 1979 model boat but I don't know what the E stands for after the 78 on the hull number. The distance from the bottom of the aft end of the keel (all the way up) straight up to the bottom (keel) of the boat is about 19 1/2 inches.Assuming the boat is lying flat on the ground but straight up erect, the dictance from the ground straight up to the bottom of the water line is about three feet. (Well, duh, it draws three feet with the keel up.)I estimate the keel thickness at no greater than six inches. Now what does this mean for a trailer. As the C-25's are fairly flat bottomed, the bunks should be, I think, about two feet higher than the cross members and/or axles. This takes into account the 19 1/2inches for the keel plus another 16 1/2 inches to the water line and then adding something for the angel of the trailer to the water at the launch ramp. Thw width of the keel guide may be ok at about 6 to 8 inches, but I'm guessing on that.
