Could anyone provide some additional details regarding the swing keel cable and attachments on a 1995 MacGregor 26S. Currently I have line (rope) inside the cabin that attaches to a cable. The cable goes through the pulleys and down the tube to the bottom of the boat. Should this cable attach directly to the swing keel? How does it attach exactly? Or does a another section of short rope go between the bottom of the cable and the swing keel? This is how it was set up when I purchased the boat, but has now failed twice. Does anyone have exact lengths of the ropes and cables that are required? Any photos? I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Take it to a boat yard

Dave, I had to have my broken swing keel cable replaced too on my 1994 Mac 26S. I took the boat to a local boat yard to have it lifted out of the water onto a cradle (it cost $150 locally which included 1 hour of labor, $50 for travel lift, parts, and sales tax). The keel will need to be dropped 2-3 feet exposing the cable and its connection. I don't know the exact length, but I was charged for 4'of 1/8 vinyl life line (it has to be long enough to fully drop the keel and short enough to hit the stop under the stove inside the boat cabin.) The best diagram I saw was from the related website below. Hope this helps.
