I noticed that the teak on the swim platform of my 2004 Beneteau 331 is beginning to lift from the fiberglass on one side. I notified my dealer and the first question that he asked is whether I shrink wrapped the boat for the winter. I used a custom cover that I ordered from the Canvas Store rather than shrink wrap, but it didn't cover the swim platform. Is it normal for something like that to happen if it is not covered for the winter? It seems logical to me, that on a boat, something like the swim platform should be pretty much weather proof. I don't want to be unreasonable so I would appreciate any info that this group can provide before I prepare for a warranty battle. Also, it would be good to know whether I should be covering it for next winter. Thanks

I find it a bit odd that the teak would lift and separate from the fiberglass especially since it is surrounded by a sealant. Take a magnifying glass and look at the sealant all around and make sure that there are no problems with it. I am wondering if over the winter since it wasn't protected that a small amound of water didn't get behind the teak, freeze and lift it up. If you don't find any breaks in the sealant i would apush the repair as a warrantly issue Good luck Charlie

My teak is lifting also

The teak on one of the seats in the cockpit of my 2002 Beneteau 393 is lifting also. I'm sure that it was a gap in the black caulking around the teak. I may have to remove the caulk, epoxy the teak down and re-caulk. If I were you, with a brand new boat, I'd make the dealer fix the problem. It shouldn't happen after just 1 season
