Swim platform on Catalina 36

We are considering the purchase of a Catalina 36 (1988). One of our concerns is the lack of a swim platform on the older (pre-1993?) models with the traditional non-walk-thru transom. We have younger children and really think a swim platform is a must-have. Do you know of any "bolt-on" and reasonably attractive solutions?

Swim platform

I have a 1986 Catalina 36. I looked into swim platforms, But did'nt see any I liked. I have three boys ages 6,9,11 They all swim off the back of the boat and have'nt had a problem. I loved the walk-thru transom and would also like more hp but the difference in price approx 35,000 didnt seem worth it. you also lose alot of storage space.Would like to hear from someone who has had both + and - hope this helps Bob

A swim platform can be a safety feature . . .

Hi Bob, Our 1984 Catalina 36 has a stern ladder that swings down which is mighty handy for getting yourself out of the water, especially the 56 degree water in the San Francisco Bay. However, it ain't much for getting yourself into the water and I, too, would love to know if a bolt-on swimming platform is available for the Catalina 36. Good luck on your/our search! - Ralf in Sausalito

Swim Platform Suggestions

We have a 98 C36Mk II with walk-out, ladder and swim platform, and with 2 boys, 7 and 5, we wouldn't be without it. For older C36's, there is at least one photo of a swim platform in the C36 Tech notes, available from Bob McCullogh, Captain_Bob_McC@prodigy.net. It looks like a clean installation, with a removeable segment for the ladder to drop down.
