We have a 1985 Hunter 25.5. One of the swim ladder's mounting blocks is broken. It appears that the bolt heads were embedded in wood, and then the two halves of the block were compressed together. Any ideas on how we can either fix this, or replace it? The kids are getting bigger, and it's getting harder and harder to pull them up :).

Replace the Entire Ladder

Hi Robert, Thsi has happened to me on my H23; a block broke on my swim ladder. My solution was to remove the old ladder entirely and replace it with a new ladder from West Marine. They have several offerings and one should fit your H25.5. The ladder will cost between $100.00 and $150.00. You'll have to remove all the bolts/screws, fill in the old holes with either epoxy or Marine-tex, drill new holes and mount. If there is no backing board (i.e. marine plywood on the interior of the transom where the ladder was/is mounted) then I would strongly suggest glassing in a 1/2 - 3/4" thick backing board. Good luck! /Chuck S/V Windsongs '85 H23

Chuck:

Hi, I too have a H23 on Long Island. Which WM swim ladder did you install on yours? There's not a whole lot of room on the transom. I would be interested in seeing it or a picture if possible. Fair winds.

Chris, I need to check my paperwork (I'm at work right now). I can get a shot but I'll need to get to the boat. This ladder is stainless steel rather than aluminum. ( I had an aluminum before this and it was flimsy) This ladder was one of teh thinner ones as I recall and I needed to modify it (cut one of the sets of legs) to accomodate the reverse transom. /Chuck S/V Windsongs '85 H23
