swim ladder

Since I sail singlehanded, I worry about getting back on board after
going over the side, for example to clear a lobster buoy line from
the prop. I think a permanently mounted folding swim ladder on one
side of the transom might be best, but a stainless steel custom
ladder might be too expensive for my budget. What do other Vega
owners in the U.S. use? Can you remember the manufacturer and model
number?

Hi:
I made my own... cost me about 5 bucks, and I have it rolled up at the
stern.
(But I can reach it from the water). It's made from rope and 1 1/2 inch
round
wooden rods.
However, I always use a harness when in open waters. (I'm also single
handed)
Remember- should you ever fall over board- your ladder wont help you much-
unless you're an olympic swimmer!

Hello, Robinhood, from Milbridge, ME up the coast. I've passed through
your harbor--nice place.

I have a simple stainless ladder that mounts through only two holes in
the transom of my Vega and simply swings up and down from the attachment
point. It was there when I bought the boat, and I doubt it was custom,
but it works great and we use it routinely for boarding from the dinghy.
it will be over a week before I get up to see my boat, which still
swings on her mooring in Milbridge. I'm pulling Oct. 7. If you still are
interested, e-mail back (off the list) a day or two before Oct 4, when I
leave Mass. for Maine, to remind me to inspect the ladder to see if I
can find a manufacturer's mark. I probably also have a picture somewhere
that shows it; as last resort if you don't have better information by
then, I could email you that too. Good luck.

A few weeks ago at least two people in the group asked about the swim
ladder on my Vega. I finally got back up to Maine and checked it--no
manufacturer's identifying identification on the ladder. But I took a
couple photos (ladder up, ladder down) and posted them at the Yahoo
groups AlbinVega site, since a couple people were curious what it looked
like. Very simple, clean, easy to install and use, but sorry I don't
know know the manufacturer since the previous owner had installed it.
