Swim Ladder / Emergency Ladder

I need to replace my aging plastic ladder on Nossa. I like the idea of at least a couple of folding stainless steps on the stern, but the reverse-angle is daunting for my aging body.

I like the idea of a "deployable" rope/wood ladder (a dangling release slip knot) off the shroud foot for emergency use - but it's not a convenient location for regular use - though at my latitude, I don't swim regularly.

Maybe one "deployable" on the port shroud base, and another one off the Starbord quarter

For now, my main emergency routine is walrussing myself into my Achilles iflatable, then onto the Vega.

Does anyone have a creative solution that's functional, aestheticaly happy, and suitable for the "marginally strong"?

Thanks for your thoughts.

We are using a off-the-shelf folding ladder (long) bought from West Marine. The stand-off stubs at the lower part help to compensate at least in part for the overhanging stern. It slides into some "eyes" screwed to the top of the transom - pretty sturdy setup. I have to say, though, that I cut the left part of my pushpit railing and replaced it with one that can be opened (hinged), to make it easier to step aboard. Just an idea...

I bought a little folding step, and bolted it to the transom just at the boottop. http://www.bosunsupplies.com/products2.cfm?product=S3630 From the water I can grab the deck and get a foot on the step and get back on board. It is cheap, looks ok, and both convenient and a safety feature.
