Are the edges sealed?
Dorthy: Are the edges of the top sealed? Normally the edges of the top are sealed with formica or some type of banding. If this is not the case then you should either do this yourself or take it to a shop and have them do it for you. The originals ones probably only had some melamine tape. You may need to cut a little wood off so there is a clean edge for the formica to stick to. Once the top fits properly when wet or dry, you can go to home depot and purchase some weather seal 'P' shape (better than the 'D' shape. Stick this around the lid and you will have a better seal than the original too.
