While the Christopher Dorner thing was going on, my wife and I went down to the boat from our mountain home; the same mountain where law enforcement eventually caught up with him. Anyhow, there were lots of LE vehicles watching who was coming up and down the highway, with, as it turns out, good reason.
So, anyhow, on the boat, while I was working on my fuel polishing rig, I noticed the CG stopping boats coming out of a launch ramp area; very unusual. A little later, one motored right up my finger and and through some others near by. Never saw that before.
A bit later, I heard a helicopter overhead circling. I identified it as a Sheriff chopper. I looked to the gate on the dock in back and saw a swarm of LE vehicles pull up. The CG then stopped all boat traffic into the marina. Meanwhile, armed SWAT team and other LE walked the two docks in back with shotguns, rifles and handguns drawn. They were looking at boats while others scanned the water.
I told my wife. She popped up to see. I realized this was not a good thing and told her to go down. I followed her. Well, she's not real good at following my instruction, so she popped her head out. Then she got her camera. I quickly told her "DON'T POINT ANYTHING AT A GUY WIT A GUN IN HIS HAND AND GET BACK DOWN HERE!". This time, she appeared to listen. Later, I scanned the area and they had a guy on the dock with a wet suit. He was tall, AA, shaved head. One of the guys was talking to him while the others had their arms trained on him. I saw they guy pat the 'suspect' on his back a couple of times and then walk away. The teams dispersed.
So, I figured he was a diver, but then saw him climb into a boat that I didn't recognize. I assume he was a new tenant. I'm sure he had to rinse his wet suit, poor guy! I was later to find out that the city we are in was where Dorner's wife lived and that he had purchased scuba tanks near by, so the LE presence made more sense.
While I was downloading my wife's camera, I came across this photo my wife evidently took before I dragged her down. It reminded me to pass on the story. BTW, the grey Boston Whaler is an FBI boat. That's the usual slip.
