Suzuki DF-6 Carburator

Hi All,

I am having problems with my brand new Suzuki DF-6.
It starts fine, it runs fine for about 20 min. It will run even longer if I keep it in high RPMs.
Once the motor is warm (usually after about 20 min) it would fail me when i go into lower RPMs.
It dies on me, and I cannot restart. Fuel is dripping out into the water.
If i take the spark out, it is black of soot, and its foot is wet.

That makes me think: the air to gas mix is too rich. Now, I am having trouble locating the adjuster. I found a tiny screw at the top which could potentially be it, but even if I bring it out 8 half turns, I don't see a change in the motor's behavior when idling.

Does anyone know:
* if I'm right suspecting the ratio as the cause for my problem
* if I am trying the right screw to adjust the mix?

Thank you!
Mario

sounds to me like the float in the carb is stuck or leaks.. or the float valve has doo-doo in it.. or the float valve tab got bent allowing the float level to be too high. VERY CAREFULLY..(I find cell phone pictures help with re-assembly of linkages etc) Pull the carb and remove the float chamber and remove the float and its little pin valve.. float should not have any liquid in it.. check the float with the pin installed and the carb upside down- the float should sit about horizontal when the little tab is resting on the head of the pin valve. If you have a dealer nearby, give him a call and ask if he wants the whole engine or just the carb, assuming that you are comfortable with and have some experience with handling those itsy bitsy parts.. If you break something or the dealer figures you've messed with it, he may elect to cancel your warranty..

Thank you Claude. my dealer basically is clueless. He gave me the carb like this, telling me, that it might be ruined by "dirty" fuel. he cleaned it out a couple of times, and he'd always tell me that it#s working now.
Well, it does for some minutes. I'd rather check the thing myself, and will go by your advice!

Thanks again,
Mario

This is a parts diagram, I think.. It looks like nothing in the mixture is adjustable. The jets appear to all be fixed. Something else to check is that the choke plate is operating correctly and pulling completely open when the knob is pushed in.. You are correct in that the mixture appears to be extremely rich.. Let us know what ya find..

I had the same engine with the same problem. Ethanol. It dissolves the rubber in the fuel line and gunks up the carb. Pull the carb and clean it with a carb cleaner. Install a filter in the fuel line if you are using a remote tank. The filter should be as close to the engine as possible. West marine sells ethanol resistant fuel line. Replace the fuel lines on the engine with the ethanol resistant line. Note when you disassemble the carb if there is any rust on the S.S. screws inside the carb. Water in the fuel. From now on, run the carb dry when you are finished. The best solution of all is to find ethanol free gas if you can.
