Hurricane Ivan struck Baldwin county Alabama Thursday morning. In Robert's Bayou (Pirate's Cove marina)in Josephine, several boats that had been anchored and tied on the west side of the bayou (including a 40' ketch)were tossed onto the shore. Boats anchored and tied to trees on the east shore of the bayou fared better. Several boats are in the trees along the shore. A big party/tourist boat drifted into several other sailboats when the tree it was tied to toppled. My boat was among those in it's path. I was relieved to see it afloat, but the lifelines, stanchions, and toe railing will need to be replaced. A nearby 35' sailboat was pushed ashore, but floated when pulled back in. It could have been much worse, as you might have seen in Pensacola news footage. The marina was badly damaged, as was the grille, boatyard. etc. I think the surge was about 10-12'. Boats that were tied to two trees and double anchored did well. Had the big boat held, mine would have been untouched.
