It does not usually work like that with surveyors.
First off, you did not indicate why or what type of survey you are looking for but I will assume it is for a purchase, pending a positive survey. Most surveyors do have specialties but they range more towards engines or electronics etc. You might get lucky and find a surveyor who has previously surveyed an Allied sailboat but it would not bother me if they had never seen my brand of sailboat as they have (hopefully) done surveys of various types on ALL kinds of boats and seen the good, bad and ugly that is out there. That said, here is a link to SAMS (Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors) list of surveyors in NY state: http://www.marinesurvey.org/index2.htmlAnd here is a link to a the website of NAMS (National Association of Marine Surveyors) where you will have to hunt for the 'Find a Surveyor' button and fill in the blanks (I saw more listings on SAMS website): http://www.nams-cms.org/I believe there are a few more organizations you could use to expand your search but these two are the most commonly used as affiliations for professional surveyors; anyone can hang up a shingle and call themselves a marine surveyor (in NYS) but they should try to belong to one of these two organizations in some manner. That said, there are a few Allied owners out there on this forum who seem quite happy with their boats so my guess is that if it looks good it probably is. A surveyor is akin to a mechanic though when buying a car; they lift up the hood and inspect the condition of (almost) everything and give you a punch list of things that could be improved (if indeed they can be improved). I will volunteer to come up and go over things with you but it is quite a drive from where I am in NYC.Good luck in your surveyor search. My web/boat/blog: http://www.odalisque.us/index.html
