Had my 30 surveyed and was told I have a void ahead of the mast in the coach roof. I cut a 1 foot square section out underneath to discover there is no core there. The inside runs skin runs forward dead straight while the outer skin slowly arcs down. that means the balsa core (1/2 inch) has to stop at a point about a foot forward of the mast because the space narrows. It looks like they slapped in a little extra glass on the top skin..that's it! I have to repair a mess created by a crappy surveyor!

Read how they core an island packet deck. You might be able to use the same method to fill the void.

.....or you can just shred the survey :shhh:
Serously, I don't see how it would have any structural effects. I do wonder why they did it. It didn't save anything. Maybe they ran out of balsa.

I do not think that it is unusual for this type of thing to happen.

Our neighbor purchased a Beneteau 39 that the surveyor reported as having moisture in the deck. They actually removed core samples from the reported area and they were as dry as the day the boat was built. (go figure).
