Arnie

I was up waxing today and found a few small "pencil line" type cracks around the front windshild and both of the winches and between the two port lights on both sides. I can feel them with my finger nail and am thinking that this might be serious. Some of them are over 4 inchs long. Any suggestions ??

Hi Arnie, we have some gel cracks as well. Most boats do...

Our surveyor told me they were not serious, but it might be helpful to have a professional look at them. This surveyor provided a tip on cleaning them up if they bother you. He said to use a Dremel tool to cut a shallow "V" groove along the crack then fill with a Gel repair material and buff smooth. I've never tried it so perhaps others might have a better suggestion. Thanks Terry

I will take your advice and have someone here at the marina look at the cracks. I am sure they are not harmful to the structure but I sure don't like they way they look. If this is a repair I can do myself,,, i will try it but I like to keep the boat looking new and I keep a good wax and polish on her. I am afraid those type of repairs will be noticable. Can anyone tell me what causes these type of cracks ? A

Some of it results from normal boat flexing...

where bulkheads join. We have a few around the transom where sections join, as well as the starboard genoa cheek block has some around it possibly from stress. Terry
