Any clues as to the total surface area of (a) hull and (b) deck of an Oday 23. I'm trying to work out how much paint and epoxy to buy and how many coats.Tks
There is a chart in the West Marine Catalog under the bottom paint section that break's it down. The formula they give is length X beam X .75= approximate underwater surface area.
Don't know what happened there. The rest of the information doesn't make much sense. They don't have a boat your size listed but for the deck of a 20 foot sailboat they recommend 1 gallon and 2 quarts for a 30ft. Go figure that out. According to them, these recommendations are good for two coats.Thats the best I can do for you, Good Luck!
I've heard length x beam x .75 for both top and bottom what with the keel and the cockpit sides. I can do two coats on my 25 with one gallon of bottom paint. To do the topsides, I'd use length x maximum freeboard. You'll wind up with extra paint that way, not extra boat.Justin - O'day OWners' Web
