I believe that the in mast furling line on my H 44 and probably many of your boats was originally sized at 10MM. The original line has a yellow tracer. I had to replace this line after 8 years of use and the Selden website says the line can be replaced with 3/8 inch yacht braid which is "slightly" smaller than the 10 MM and feels a bit different. It also tends to slip in the mast furler when furling against any pressure. I tried going up to 7/16 yacht braid however this line is slightly larger than 10 MM and does not pass readily through the blocks at the base of the mast.

Does anyone have a source for (truly) 10 MM yacht braid? I suppose the good news is that with every attempt I'm getting better at making the end to end splice but I am also already into this project for over $100 trying the various line diameters.

3/8 (.375) is only 1/32 (.031.25) smaller than 10 mm (.392) so it seems to me that 3/8 would be fine you may be used to the feel of 10 mm but it will not take long to get used to 3/8 and the strength difference is negligible by comparison .... over time the 3/8 will swell up some because of dirt build up...i work with dimensions all the time and would not worry about the diff un less you are building a clock

Thanks but that line is too short for my in mast furler which requires a minimum of 44 feet.

There are also brand-to-brand variations. NE ropes 3/8 Stayset and Samson 3/8 XLS are significantly different. There are also finish differences. If it is critical, take a piece around to the local stores.
