A few months back there were a couple of articles and a picture or two of boats that sunk at the slip. I may have missed it but has there been any information as to why these boats sunk?

sunk because

Both boats sank due to throuth hull fitting on the inboard engens freezing. The Ericson was not insured and the owner lived out of state. This boat is going up for sail to recover the cost of pulling it out. The ODay was insured but the insurance Co will not pay. They claim it was a macanical failer and is not covered. I dont know what the owner is duing with his boat.

Freezing and Sinking

I mentioned this before but last fall I checked with my insurance company, State Farm and they were very clear that a failed thru hull was not covered if due to freezing. Boat US has a rider for in water winter storage. Check with your insurer not your agent. By the way, some Ericsons have a built in issue in that the cockpit drains are below water and you must leave the seacock open. Those need to be rerouted.
