My beloved 1980 H27 sunk at the dock yesterday due to Hurricane Jeanne. I am guessing she got a hole in the bottom after the doubled-up dock lines snapped. I am waiting for the adjustor to call me. Any advice??

So sorry

We are so troubled to hear of your loss. We also have an H27 but were luckier than you. The winds were much stronger at Clearwater than at St. Pete. It's a great excuse to go boat shopping!!

John, is that you?

Is that you from Toms River North, NJ? We own an h27, 1981 as well. Pictures, Pictures, Pictures. They will want to settle fast and may put a little pressure on. Sometimes in natural disasters, insurance companies will hire indepenedent adjustors to handle them and authorize to give blue book value. If you added gear, get photos, rcpts. If you do not have rcpts, look to see and get ads or internet advertisement print outs of what the gear goes for. John Wurch

Sunk..

Sorry to hear about the loss of your boat. I lost a boat (that I owned for 7 weeks!)last year to Hurricane Isabel. I suggest you get out to your boat as soon as possible, take pictures from all angles, and they write up your own report of the damage. Give the pictures and your report to the adjuster. If you have Boat US insurance, you are in good hands. Boat US had an adjuster, who was a qualified surveyor, on site in a few days. He had a lot of boats to inspect, and looked at mine at least 3 times before deciding to total it. I received full insured value, plus $500 for personal effects, a few weeks later. Good luck. I know how hard it is to lose a boat.

Thousands mourn

All of us on HOW mourn your loss and that of others hit by Jeanne. It's easy for us to say at least you didn't lose your house and valuables, but losing a boat is a special tragedy. Best thing that can come out of it is a bigger/newer boat, and we're all rooting for you.

Insurance company called

says they will cover the salvage. This sucks. Now waiting to see if it's a total. Hey John W, Yeah its me. Couldn't take the cold NJ winters on Barnegat Bay so I decided to live the Florida lifestyle. Never a dull moment.
