OK maybe im missing something but just bought this 09 Hunter 38 and cant find the way to turn on the shower sump. There is a sump pump switch on the power panel but nothing happens. is there another switch somewhere else that I am missing? or do I need to go diagnose a bad pump.

No idea of the setup on your boat but on my Hunter you just turn on the breaker and use the shower. There's a float switch that will turn on the pump when enough water collects in the sump box.

My 38 has a switch that is located in the head on the face of the vanity just under the sink. No float switch. When you turn the power on it runs.

Something else for you. The pump is located under the floor in the aft cabin where the door to the head is. There is a strainer on the pump that needs to be cleaned periodically.

Switch on vanity too

My 38 has a switch that is located in the head on the face of the vanity just under the sink. No float switch. When you turn the power on it runs.

Something else for you. The pump is located under the floor in the aft cabin where the door to the head is. There is a strainer on the pump that needs to be cleaned periodically.
My Hunter 40.5 has as switch on the electrical panel, a rocker "on/off" switch on the vanity (like above) plus a float switch at the pump for the aft head. The forward head does not have the on/off rocker switch. The switch on the electrical panel is for both shower sumps.

The rocker switch on the vanity below the sink for the aft head sump pump only has ON and Off labeled on it and not specific identification that it is for the shower sump pump.

My 40.5 has a nav panel CB for both heads and a switch in each head to control that pump. Given that there could also be a float switch I'm thinking you need to pull the sump floor grate first to check for a float switch. no sense looking for the switch on the vanity if it is not there.

The 38 does not have a sump like you have on your boat. There is a drain in the shower floor and the pump is located under the floor in the aft cabin.
No sump, no float switch.

found it thanks

thank you all...... wish they (hunter) were more consistent in where they set up their boats. would be nice to step up and not have to learn it all over.

You mean you don't find it intellectually stimulating to master the challenge learning all new systems and approaches. :)

Seriously though I think a lot has to do with the changes in design and engineering over time, space considerations in each model, efforts to add features and needs to cut costs. And then add in continuous improvement and refinement and well you know.....

FYI: As mentioned above, the shower drain is plumbed to the sump pump controlled by the switch mounted on the vanity (assuming the sump breaker on the panel is on). If water ever overflows the shower stall, it will spill onto the vanity floor which drains into the bilge. I think it's a pretty good design eliminating the need for yet another float switch.
