About the same time things were amiss at the launch ramp, the rest of the story unfolds. Now at the marina that I'm in, everything but myself was a fishing boat. Talk about being an Oreo! Another sailor decided to dock in our place and put the sailboat fleet up to two. The owner of the marina let me know and offered my sevices to help the new guy if needed, no one else knew anything about sailboats. I agreed to help. One sunny Saturday afternoon a couple came by an introduced themselves as Sam and Kate. They were the new sailors and had heard about me. The first thing they had to say after introductions was "Did you see Captain Ron! Wasn't that just the greatest movie you ever saw!" Then the rest was they bought the boat but they had no knowledge of sailing whatsoever. I told them since I was going out, they could come along if they wanted too. On the way out the channel, you have to go under some power lines. Sam told me that they were dangerous as he hired a captain and he snagged them with the mast; and blew the power out in town and about 50 miles away. Out in the lake (Lake Erie), sails were hoisted and away we went with Sam at the helm. Things went pretty good and all was well until Kate let us know that she didn't like the boat to heal. Ooops! They both decided they had enough of the sun and wanted to go in, and wanted me to take them out on their boat the following weekend for instruction and help. I agreed. I went over to there slip and found a good looking blond sunning herself on the deck. Then her husband showed up and through a blanket over her and wanted to know who I was. I told them and they both replied "Did you see Captain Ron. Wasn't it the greatest!" The whole family it turns out watched the film, decided that's what sailing was all about and they were going to follow the same path. For refrence, they would play the film to get pointers. By the end of the season, the sailboat was sold and a larger powerboat was purchased 'cause not one would trust Sam at the helm.

Hey Dave, that's hillarious!

I'm just up the western shore at Toledo Beach. I've got a lot of sailors to keep me company. Funny that you mention Captain Ron. There is a Formosa 51 right across from my slip. That's the boat they used in the movie (although THIS Formosa is absolutely immaculate). My Buddy who has a Hunter 380 knows the former owner.
