Every Friday after work we get to our boat and have to hose off all of the bird droppings, polution/dust etc. I am thinking that a complete cover made from a lightweight fabric clipped to the lower lifelines might be a good idea. It would keep the sun, rain and bird stuff off the boat. Have anybody ever seen one of these? Any comments if this is a good idea? I figure that the teak finish and gelcoat would last longer when we stop the UV rays and rain etc. Comments

I think I have what you are looking for

There is a company called shade tree that makes something like that. It looks like a covered wagon. I have one listed on gear for sale here. It's from my 88' H30. Bob Always Something

Port duster

Such a thing is called (was called) a port duster (as in "in port"). Joshua Slocum mentions his in "Sailing Alone Around the World." Good idea if you have that kidn of problem, and can find a good place to store it when not deployed. If money is no object, take a look at Fairclough's web site.

I will put up a tarp over the boom

I will put a tarp up over the boom, this stops the worst in the cockpit, but not forward. Its also quick and easy to remove; and provides shade in the summer.

Fruit tree netting

In order to keep birds off the boat and prevent them frm eating fish aboard, we cover the boat with fruit tree netting which we picked up at a local garden center, approx $20 for a 34' boat. I've seen tarps that are draped over the boom and extended spinnaker pole to keep the sun and rain off the deck. The tarps are secured to the top lifelines.
