Portable A/C unit

that fits in the forward hatch. About $700. It's for a boat so it will not rust or catch on fire. That what my supplier says everytime I complain!

Fighting the heat

We have the same boat, and the same problem, although we're in N.C. We bought the smallest Carrier room AC (I think it was 5000 btus) and it cost about $150. It fits perfectly in the companionway and with a little creative installation of the drop boards the whole thing keeps it cool enough for sleeping. Of course this is only good if you have shore power available. When we were anchored out we counted on ventilation from the forward hatch, some fans and good bug screens.

Keep me posted

I am currently resaerching this. My current plan is to get a Honda 2000 portable generator and a windom unit in the hatchboards. I will keep the honda genset in the cockpit although the safest suggestion seems to be to keep it in a dinghy. I am considering an auto fire suppression untit ( west marine catalog) to mount in the cockpit where the genset will be . I just traded up from a 93 27 to a 87 31. Let me know what direction you take with this

heat!

The 12 volt Hella Turbo fans do an excellent job of moving air on our H280 here in south Florida. I installed 2 and have a 3rd ready to put in soon. The amp draw is very low for these fans.(see ads inWest Marine, Boat US etc). They make the difference for us from unbearable heat to comfortable. Lots of luck Pete
